LARRY TYRRELL
Shakuhachi player Larry Tyrrell is the preeminent voice of the Japanese bamboo flute in the Northwest. He performs, teaches and records music from a repertoire encompassing traditional Japanese meditation pieces, new classical compositions and multi-ethnic music.
He recently completed a commission for a composition for shakuhachi trio that was premiered in August 2007, in Japan.
Mr. Tyrrell lived in Japan for six years where he studied with two great masters of shakuhachi; Kohachiro Miyata and Katsuya Yokoyama. He currently lives in Portland and has teaching studios both here and in Seattle.
