STEFAN MITCHELL delivers a rich, multi-dimensional vocal style that inspires and connects the generations. This self-taught musician began as a drummer with only one goal in mind – to play for the love of it. But when you possess an undeniable vocal ability matched only by a knack for weaving lyrical tapestries, the response is, “You were made to do this.”
Born in Laurel, Maryland, this Air Force brat spent six weeks there before moving to Turkey and a host of other countries across the globe. Touched by a culturally diverse upbringing, Stefan has continued to travel, this time performing and recording music. His vocal “gift” came to the forefront in 1990 when he volunteered at Camp Rainbow Gold in Boise, Idaho, a camp for children with cancer. Stefan sang at Rainbow Gold’s campfires, which lead to Wish Boats and Love Knots, an album he recorded especially for the camp. Most recently, a song from the album appeared on Broadjam.com’s Top 10 list.
After moving to Seattle, Stefan demonstrated his dramatic skills landing film, television, and theater roles, while also working as a voice-over artist. Eventually, Stefan’s versatility, combined with his effortless melodic skills, inspired him to put down the sticks and start writing and recording music, this time behind the microphone.
Stefan’s sensitive talent comes to life on From Within, his first solo album, which contains songs chosen as much for their personal meaning as for the way they touch his audience. He is currently at work on a follow-up to From Within. He is also collaborating with renowned songwriter and producer Jonathan Kingman (Julio Iglesias, Jr., Kim Richey, Glen Philips, Skip Peri) on a new record due out in 2004, where Stefan will return to his pop and rock roots as vocalist and drummer.
